Credit Reporting Agencies - There are three major credit reporting agencies: Equifax (800) 685-1111 or , Experian (888) 397-3742 or , and TransUnion (800) 888-4213 or , which track your credit history with regard to on-time payment of bills, any liens or judgments filed against you, and any bankruptcies that you file. You can get one free copy of your credit report each year from each of the reporting agencies. Simply call them and ask for a copy of your credit information.
Credit Reports requested by the consumer do not impact any credit scores. Usually only requests for credit that are completed by 3rd parties will have an impact to your credit report score. This is why ensuring you don't apply for credit too many times is important when starting to look into getting a mortgage. Consumers should avoid applying for automotibles or other types of loans that require many different lenders to try to approve the loan. These agencies will give you a copy of your credit report but often the credit report will not have a fico score. |
